FF 59.0.2 on OS X El Capitan - it opens with no visible window. Going to the taskbar, under "Window" it shows the home page (opens when clicked on) and a phantom "Mozilla Firefox" page (clicking on it has no results). Other times FF opens with a tiny window in the bottom right of the screen, that can be dragged to full size. I erased the xulstore, json to no avail.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage

What is the value? Right-click and select Reset to restore its default value; about:home

There are several possibilities to this problem.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json or Localstore.rdf file.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:

  • Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  • Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data
    \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

Done that already, but tried again. Nothing has changed. Still small new window in bottom right and phantom window under "Window" menu. Thank you anyway — any other tip?
