synching/history problem

more options

Hi!

I've added a new device and am trying to synch it (my new laptop). My account shows everything synched (history, bookmarks, log-ins). However, none of my previous history is showing up. None of my old bookmarks are visible.

Either something didn't work right with synching, or (much worse) all of my Firefox bookmarks, history, and log-ins have been lost. I have no way of knowing what the problem is, since everything shows as being correctly synched on my laptop when I view my Firefox account.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi Jeff, what is the current status of your old device where the data originated? You might want to make a physical backup from disk before restarting that Firefox is your Sync account is going to clear data.

To access your Firefox profile folder on disk on Windows, it helps to set Windows to show hidden files and folder: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

Then try submitting this shortcut path into the Windows system search box (on the Taskbar, Start menu) or Run dialog (Windows key + R):

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

You may have a .default or .default-release or other folders here. You can make a backup copy of the one that was most recently updated, judging from the Modified Date/Time on important files like places.sqlite (the database file that stores bookmarks and history).

You also can grab the files from the bookmarkbackups subfolder to use in a Restore on another Windows installation of Firefox.
