In Address Book, File/New/CardDAV Address Book... Enter your User Name (usually the email address) and the CardDAV URL. For Google Contacts, it is:
https://www.googleapis.com/carddav/v1/principals/username@gmail.com/lists/default/
Press Alt if the Menu Bar with File is hidden.

I'm trying to get Outlook contacts to work, no joy - possibly because I can't find the url to MY address book / contacts. Anyone know?
Use the TbSync/Provider for Exchange ActiveSync add-ons to sync outlook.com calendars and contacts.
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/tbsync/
I don't use Exchange, and I don't see any access to Outlook Contacts or Calendar with that add-on, or the provider add-on that goes with it either. I'm stumped. thanks for the try, it's close! Or I'm missing something...
What exactly are you trying to do? If you have an outlook.com/hotmail account and want to sync the calendar and contacts, the suggested add-ons work even if you don't use Exchange. If you have Outlook installed on the same computer and want to access the Outlook address book, try this add-on. Or, maybe you want to import Outlook contacts to TB.
Should Thunderbird's CardDAV be working with Yahoo?
I can't seem to get it working, or I'm using the wrong URL. I've tried the following with no luck
https://carddav.address.yahoo.com/ https://carddav.address.yahoo.com/carddav/ https://carddav.address.yahoo.com/.well-known/carddav/ (This is what TBSync claims to use successfully)
In all the cases I get a "Failed to connect" error.
Thanks.
