I am NOT an IT professional so I am very reluctant to install the new version of Thunderbird as I know that all upgrades produce many problems. Is there any way to get help from Thunderbird other than randomly posting a multitude of questions on your web site and hoping that someday I will get MEANINGFUL answers vs. vague generic answers as usual? Since there is no way to contact you by phone, this process would take weeks or months of extreme frustration. Or, should I just drop Thunderbird and use another provider who has a better user support system since Thunderbird's very limited support system appears to be designed to attract IT professional users only?

Your condescending attitude certainly doesn't help. The majority of people we help are those with problems, often self-initiated. IT professionals rarely post here, other than to give tips. Thunderbird is free, so to expect full-time experts sitting at keyboards, ready to quickly resolve issues is not realistic; people who support this page are all volunteers, receiving no pay or benefits or perks. Tens of thousands of users update regularly with no problems, leaving this forum to give the impression of unreliability because this forum only shows problems. If you plan to upgrade, my suggestion is to - exit thunderbird first and then do a full copy of your profile, normally at c:\ussers\<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird - unless you use the default Window anti-virus, pause the antivirus, as some do wicked things during an update. - install the update - if problems surface that seem serious, exit thunderbird and copy the backed-up profile back to c:\users\yourid\appdata\roaming\thunderbird and restart thunderbird - if problems surface, post your specific questions here.

All said, you may do better elsewhere. We have no vested interest in attempting to lure dissatisfied persons to stay. Thunderbird is highly respected and stands on it's own. Personally, I'm curious about this "provider who as a better user support system", and curious why you're not already a user there. Regards.
