I cannot get new install of Firefox to use the old profile. It started a new profile in the same folder . Both profiles end with .default. When I run profile manager, it just shows 'default' (highlighted). It does NOT show the two profiles that are in the folder.

You need to use the Firefox Profile Manger to create a new profile and use the Choose button to link that old profile. Firefox will recognize that old profile and use it.
