After updating to FF 8 fonts are displayed too small

This is happening on almost all websites. Of course I can increase the font size with ctrl-+ but this also increases the image sizes on that page. Clearly the fonts are too small.

The difference can especially be noted with text in comboboxes that is about half the size as the rest of the text on the page.

Is this a known issue or is there a new setting somewhere that I don't see? I am using Win-XP Prof. 32bit by the way. Thanks in advance.

For some reason Firefox 8 seems to respect the minimum font size setting only if you have Zoom Text Only enabled. Press Alt to bring up the regular menu, then View / Zoom / Zoom Text Only.

It is possible that a smaller font is used to display the text.

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)

Make sure that you allow websites to choose fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

Hi cor-el,

thank you for your reply and sorry for taking so long to get back.

I have checked all the settings you described and they are exactly as you suggested. But still buttons (e.g. the one on the FF standard page that shows, when a server is not reachable, that says "Re-connect") and selection lists (comboboxes) are displayed in font size 4 to 5 while the other text is of size 10 or 11. See two examples in the attachments.

This weird behaviour is only on this computer. I have installed FF8 on two others and on those it's working fine.

I also tried the safe-mode to see if any of my extensions or themes are causing the problem, but still the problem persists.

Whatever... I guess I have to live with it. :-/

Thanks anyway for your time to try to help. It is greatly appreciated :-)

Cheers, Sascha

Thanks dfan. That worked!

As opposed to selecting "None" with the minimum font size, I applied the setting you mentioned and then set the minimum font size to 10. Now the buttons, comboboxes etc. are looking like before again.

Thanks, greatly appreciated!
