Firefox won't display Courier
Firefox 14 simply won't display Courier on my system. Every instance of Courier is replaced by Courier New, and it makes my website look improper (I want the aliased look of the original Courier font). Why won't Firefox 14 use Courier?

I didn't realize there was much difference between Courier and Courier New. Could you post a screen shot showing the difference?
If you look at your c:\Windows\Fonts folder, what type of font is Courier? If there isn't a Font Type column, you can right-click any column heading and add Font Type.
If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

- Firefox vs Wordpad - Screenshot Attached
- Courier New - OpenType
- Courier - Raster Type
@cor-el: The settings save just fine with any other font. It's just in the case of Courier that firefox uses Courier New in its place

That is a bitmap (raster) font and not a true type or open type font.
Current Firefox version no longer support bitmap fonts and need vector fonts.
That's unfortunate. I wanted to use Courier because it has that nostalgic-blocky look to it. Is there now way to enable the use of Raster fonts?
Perhaps you can find a free (i.e., licensed for free use) OpenType font that looks the way you want, and you could experiment with downloading it from your website so it is rendered in your preferred font. To avoid torturing readers, consider using the dilapidated font only for headlines and/or sidebars and/or pull-quotes.
Firefox 15 might allow you to display Courier and some other bitmap fonts. At least that's the impression I get from this bug (fixed for Firefox 15): 749139 – MS bitmap fonts are not rendered as expected even if Hardware Acceleration disabled. If you want to experiment with the beta, you can download it here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/beta/. However, since it's such an early beta, you may end up with more problems than you solve.
Firefox 15 still doesn't seem to allow Courier to be used at all. Same issues. Courier shows up in Firefox's font list, but any time I select it, it switches to Courier New.
