Mac OSX (10.6.8) parental controls are blocking Firefox as of 9/1/12
All of a sudden, starting 9/1/12, the Mac parental controls will not allow Firefox to open. Firefox works just fine on the administrative account but not on the account subject to parental controls.
We had not restricted Firefox on that account. But when I tried to open Firefox, the box popped up telling me I didn't have access. I clicked "Always allow" and entered password, but Firefox didn't appear. I tried again, failed again, then went into the Parental Control panels in Mac system preferences. The box to allow Firefox had been mysteriously unchecked. I went thru all the steps -- checked the box, closed out, exited account, restarted. And again the box was unchecked.
I updated my Firefox plugins -- no change. I didn't update Mac OS. Could Firefox have made a change that triggered this?

Check the PLUGIN UPDATES! Shockwave and Java were outdated and needed re-installation on mine! Took a couple of efforts with restarts but it is obvious that it solved my problems! Firefox Mozilla Toolbar 'Help' > 'Firefox Help' > lower right side of page displays link to Plugin Update review....
Hi KathrinL,
you will need to log on as an administrator or provide an administrator password to set up and manage an account that uses Parental Controls. Try it and check if the mac preferences in parental Control panels saved.
thank you
