you could also try the following in order to switch off sessionrestore completely: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preferences named browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo and browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo. double-click on those entries and change both of their values to 0.

Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that there isn't a hanging Firefox or plugin-container process left in the task manager.

Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

Set the Integer pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.

That way you see if a sessions has crashed or otherwise didn't close properly and will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen other tabs.

You can also check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

I've seen a post where this file contained a line to restore the session.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

I have tried everything that was recommended on this thread and nothing fixed the issue. It just started up a few days ago around the same time the update became available.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
