Is there really no way of clearing top sites or removing them altogether from Firefox Android? What is the point of clearing history etc. when the sites remain listed in top sites? What sort of security is that?

If you are running Firefox 21, Press and hold on the site, then hit Remove.

No, when you clear data the Top Sites remain, and when you try to remove one of these from the list (caveman method, or what!?) there is no Remove option; that seems to appear only when data have not been cleared. So you can't win. Hopeless. Very disappointed with Firefox Android and can't understand why a) Firefox can't seem to fix it, b) we keep getting the same unhelpful answers.

Hmm, I just went onto my android phone running Firefox 21, cleared all private data, and it removed the top sites. Can you confirm you have Firefox 21?

Yes, Firefox 21. Just cleared data again and what seems to be happening is that recent Top Sites are being cleared as well, but not the very long list of other Top Sites that seem to have been sync'd across from Firefox on my PC. Can't find these Top Sites on my PC (do they go by another name?) and can't remove them from the Android version - there is no Remove button.

Any ideas?

Where are you seeing these top sites? Are they on the home page (a bunch of screenshots) or somewhere else?

They're on the page you get when you tap the search box, showing Top Sites, Bookmarks and History. The reams of Top sites that seem irremovable appear to be historic sites sync'd from my PC, many of them sites I haven't viewed for years.

While I'm on, there's also a single sync'd tab at the bottom of the page I can't remove either. No idea why it's there or what it's for.

Just installed FF for android on my phone and all my bookmarks are showing as top sites... why?

When will we be able to delete top site data, like history (on android phone). Should have an option to clear like History but we don't. If I choose to have no top site listings I should be able to delete... but I/you can't.

So, I can't delete these initial top sites as they simple reflect my bookmarks when I first synced with my laptop.

Fix this please!!!!!

Have installed current version of Firefox Android on my Samsung Galaxy tablet. There appears to be no way to remove the 'Top Sites'. This is a serious flaw in the software. Needs to be rectified ASAP, otherwise there's no real point in continuing to use FF.

Will probably just delete the FF app and try reloading.

Long-time FF user on Windows pc.

I totally agree. In the absence of anything remotely helpful from Mozilla, who don't seem to realise there is a problem with the sync'ing process that produces irremovable Top Sites on the Android app, the only solution is Uninstall.

Shame on you, Mozilla.

I removed the pesky top sites by closing Firefox then going to the settings menu from my tablet (NOT Firefox its self) I chose the applications manager and then the firefox icon from the apps list, I then chose the clear data option from there, it gave me a warning that all settings data and files will be deleted...... I clicked ok and it worked a treat.... no more top sites and all my bookmarks are still intact...... hope it works for you too.

Appsusermonkey...

Clearing data via androids application manager deletes everything... bookmarks, history, extensions it basically resets the app. So, it's not possible to delete just, top sites via android app manager or any other way that I am aware of and if you do they just come back the next time you sync with your desktop/laptop.

I'm a longtime user of Firefox on my PC but having just downloaded the Android version to my tablet, I think the "top site" concept is poorly executed. You can press/hold/remove items from the history and bookmarks lists but NOT the top sites page. This makes no sense.

Why don't you just copy the functionality used by Dolphin? They call this top/home page "speed dial". You can add any site to the page and easily remove it once it's there. Most importantly, it doesn't put sites on this page automatically. Only sites you give "speed dial" status to show up.

Technically you can remove a "top site" entry. You just have to delete it from your "bookmarks" list! A rather drastic solution.

press and hold the page preview, hit edit. then they all come up on a top sites tab along with bookmarks and history. then you can hold and remove.
