Just wiped my pc clean and reinstalled windows xp back on it. wanted to use Firefox as my search engine but it seems that Google has hijacked the main page. Changed the upper right hand searchbox to duck duck go but the main firefox search window in the middle of the page is powered by Google. I have since removed both google and firefox from the add/remove programs list but not sure what to do next. Would very much like to use Firefox but not with google attached in any way! Is this possable?

Mozilla Firefox isn't a search engine, it's a web browser. Which version of Firefox do you have installed? You can see the version number in Help > About Firefox.

Firefox 20+ versions change the search engine on the default homepage (about:home) when the search engine in the Search bar is changed, so I suspect you installed an older version.

Not sure if this is an appropriate page or not. I want to use the Yahoo search engine. When I open (FF 23.0) it shows thte yahoo search engine. I searched for Flaashcatch and yahoo gave me a bunch of sites, one being "www.flashcatch.com". I clicked on it and Google comes back to me and says they can not find anything. So why is Google reporting anything to me? (I really do not want Google to report anything to me, actually.) Why did Yahoo not report that same thing. or at least show up? I tried the site a coup[le days ago and it was there. OR I have just checked my wife's computer and did the same thing and it happened there also. However, since it has not been upgraded as of yet then I know it is not a FF 23.0 thing. I can only assume that the reporting of websites which have gone down is going to be done by (yeck) Google. Is this correct? I apologize if I have offended any Google fans out there.
