Hello,

Since you mentioned that you use Gmail, there is another workaround. You can upload your Word document to Google Drive (formerly Google Docs) and then bookmark the document's URL on Google Drive. You will still be able to edit the document all you want, and all changes will be saved online for you to be able to access anywhere.

Generally speaking, all bookmarks need to have a URL that Firefox can load. This is difficult for Word documents because Firefox doesn't have the native capability to display them, so if you try to open a Word document in Firefox, it always displays the Open/Save/Cancel dialog. This may make it impossible to get the file:// address of the Word document into the Firefox address bar.

That said, you could try using Ctrl+O to open the file from the desktop, or try dragging the document into an open Firefox tab, and see whether you can get the address to appear in the address bar.

Any luck?

If you open the file in Firefox, either via New Tab > Open File or by dragging the file in a Firefox window, then you can click the star on the location bar to bookmark that file:// link in the usual way. You can change the location (folder) if you click the highlighted star another time to bring up the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog.
