Firfox still plays mp3's when told not to
I have implemented the solution specified in this posting:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963437#answer-514541
however, the issue now is when I click on a link to an mp3 from an external program, ie. Outlook, Firefox opens up a new tab to that link and begins playing the file.

The solution in /questions/963437#answer-514541 (setting the preference media.windows-media-foundation.enabled to false in about:config) only applies to Windows Vista and above. The Windows XP preference is media.directshow.enabled.

Windows Media Foundation isn't available on Windows XP. Starting in Firefox 26, MP3 content on Windows XP will open in the browser with the built-in player using DirectShow. The related preference is media.directshow.enabled (bug 861693).Tanga eyano oyo ndenge esengeli 👍 3

Looks like the additional information did not display...
Under Tools/Options/Applications...
MP3 Audio (audio/mpeg).........Save File MP3 Audio (audio/x-mpeg)......Save File
Ok, I just checked to find out that the original problem is STILL THERE. That is, clicking on an mp3 link from within Firefox causes that file to play, instead of being saved EVEN WITH
"media.windows-media-foundation.enabled" set to false
WTH is going on???
And, yes, right-clicking on the link and selecting Save As... works, but that is not the issue.
There were few bugs in older version try this latest one to solve your problem https://affiliates.mozilla.org/fb/banners/12440/link
Umm...I'm already using the most current version, v26.0. And the above link confirms it.

Ahh...that was the trick! Thanks again!
You're welcome.
