The star that turns blue when you're on a bookmarked page behaves the same as the old star in the address bar that turned yellow on a bookmarked page. You might not have used that one.

I'm not aware of a way to change the behavior of that button.

To display an Add Bookmark dialog that defaults to the Bookmarks Menu, you can use either:

• Ctrl+d
• right-click the page > Bookmark This Page
• (classic menu bar) Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page

A few other things:

• when you see a blue star, you can click it to edit or remove the bookmark

• you can open the Library dialog to reorganize bookmarks using any of these:
  • Ctrl+Shift+b
  • Bookmarks menu button > Show All Bookmarks (this is at the bottom)
  • (classic menu bar) Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks (this is at the top)

Thanks for the reply. I did not have a star. When I clicked on the bookmark tab the list of bookmarks appeared, and one item in the list was "bookmark this page". When I clicked on that, a window appeared that let me choose which folder to place the bookmark in. "Bookmark this page" is no longer in the list.

And when I click on the star now, there is no little window to let me select which folder to place the bookmark in. What happened to that window, and how can I get it back?

OK, now I see that cntl-D causes a similar little window to appear and allow me to select the folder. This should be more user friendly so it would be obvious to anyone how to bookmark to a folder.

Ctrl+D is the "Bookmark This Page" item in the Bookmarks menu on the menu bar.

• Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu bar.

This saves the new bookmark by default in the Bookmarks Menu folder.

In current Firefox releases the "Bookmark This Page" menu entry in the Bookmarks menu changes to "Edit This Bookmark" once you have bookmarked the page and the star on the Navigation Toolbar is highlighted blue. So do not get confused by the missing "Bookmark This Page" in the Bookmarks menu and seeing "Edit This Bookmark" instead if you try to bookmarks a page that is already bookmarked.

{ Ctrl + D } is a "standard" keyboard command on Windows / Linux web browsers, like the keyboard commands for Cut, Copy, and Paste - a basic feature.

I must be missing something. I just bookmarked a web page by clicking on the star. It in turn put the new bookmark in "recently bookmark". When I try to place that new bookmark in a folder with other similar it will do so but still leaves the original in the "recently bookmark" location. When I try and delete it, it also deletes the one I just moved into a folder. Bookmarking used to be so easy with all the past versions of Firefox. Those days are now gone. At least until I get a better understanding of how this new setup works. How can I fix this ????

Hi ChesterT, clicking the star once adds the bookmark to the "Unsorted" category. This star is the one that used to be in the address bar and still has that behavior. It is not the star that used to be on the toolbar.

Recently bookmarked actually is a search result, so it doesn't change when you move a bookmark to a different folder. You may be able to undo the deletion. Open the Library dialog (Win: Ctrl+Shift+b, Mac: Command+Shift+b) and check under Organize for an Undo option.
