I changed my exchange password, had my thunderbird account set up for imap; after changing I was getting an error "user is authenticated but not connected". Thunderbird was not prompting me to change my password, I believe I updated it yesterday right after changing password in exchange but that might have just been smtp.

I was able to resolve this by going into Preferences - Security - Passwords - Saved Passwords and removing my imap password.

T'bird prompted me for a new password, I supplied the updated one and was in.
