Got one message saying something about the server connection being broken during the page loading. Then I force quite FF and tried again, and got a runaway script popup box -- but the buttons were non-functional so I could not stop the stupid script. Had to vorce quite again.

Can't understand why it takes so long to load each small batch of tabs, especially since its only actually loading ONE tab in each window.

And when FF is Not Responding, my Network Speed drops to about nothing (8 Kb/sec) so its not a network problem; FF is brain dead inside my computer.

Have you tried to turn javascript.enabled off?

Type about:config<Enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar.
