AVG Yahoo opens every time I make a new tab. (Firefox)
I open a new tab, then it's this Yahoo AVG search nonsense. I deleted extensions and messed with about:config using the solutions given here:

No dice.

Going into about:config and typing AVG will give a list of things.
avg.userPreferences.newtabDisabledByUser seems to be the culprit. Every time I reset him, he would revert back to false with each new tab. It seems double clicking instead of resetting overrides the override.
At first glance, this seews resolved now. I wanted to post the solution publicly.
Bad feels, AVG. Bad feels.
Presumably you have AVG software installed.
I imagine most people use AVG because it provides free AntiVirus software (AV).
Having said that it is probably worth noting that Microsoft Windows provides free AV software. On Windows8 Windows Defender is provided and preinstalled, and on earlier Windows versions MSE is available free of charge to those with Genuine Windows installs.

- I do note it could be disabled (I hope that is not to encouage users to stick with paid for software)
However, if your PC manufacturer included a third-party antivirus program with your computer, Windows Defender may be disabled.

Whilst I do not use AVG myself and do not know about it I am aware some security related software comes with other bundled software. Often the bundled software is of speculative or little value. Your AV runs without it. I imagine your new tab problem is due to some bundled software. You could ask yourself not only how do you get the standard newtab back but do you need the bundled software at all. (I assume AVG does not force you to use bundled foistware as a condition of using AVG AV)
Firefox itself comes with rudimentary phishing and malware protection that is turned on by default.
?? [site issue] I suspect a bug in the new es Spanish support forum. Posting here as the easiest method of demonstrating the problem.
I am looking at and see this thread in en-US
The thread question is in English language.
KB article is localising to es
- Use [[How does built-in Phishing and Malware Protection work?]]
- Allow to display How does built-in Phishing and Malware Protection work?
- Expect anchor to link to
- At the moment blue anchor text seen in en-US view is
¿Cómo protegerse del "Phishing" y del "Malware" con esta herramienta de Firefox
Note discrepancy my original post is displaying es anchor this post is displaying en-us anchor. They are not even consistent between adjacent posts in the same thread.
edit The en-US anchor displays in preview only. Once posted it is the es anchor.
I will attach screeenshots of odd display, and of edit view of the post
