Installed Firefox browser to replace IE8 on XP SP3 but it seems that at "every" step I take or link I click on, a note appears at bottom left "waiting for Google.com" this slows down browsing to a crawl and make operation undesirable, how do I disable this automatic search function?? I use Google search but would like to activate it ONLY when I have a real search need and not be part of any single step I take with Firefox

Disabling the automatic search in the url bar can be done:

  1. from the Settings Menu >

or

  1. By entering about:preferences#search in to a url bar.
  2. Unchecking "Provide search suggestions"
