Logins not being remembered

Until the recent FF update I never had a problem, however now I have to log back in every time I navigate away from some websites and then come back. It's driving me mad, especially if I have two sites open in tabs and when I switch from one back to the other I have a white screen and a message Log in to continue. Why is FF doing this? I haven't changed any settings

There are some sites that are very sensitive to fluctuations in connection settings. Could you check here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default "Use system proxy settings" should follow the setting for IE, but you also could try "No proxy" to see whether that works better. Auto-detect can cause problems staying logged in on AOL network sites and Yahoo.

I have not changed any of the cookie settings, and the logins are remembered occasionally, it doesn;t forget them every time but 90% which is annoying enough. Yes I do have some plug ins but no new ones, just ones I've used sucessfully for months.

You can check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.

A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.

You can use these steps to make a website remember you:

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when you close Firefox.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Have done this but I am still having to log back in when I leave sites and come back to them.
