Google links from searches are not connecting

I have just re-installed Firefox, after a Windows 7 clean re-install. If I do a Google search, search results frequently don't load. I can see the long Google search URL there, but nothing happens. I click the re-load icon and nothing happens. It loads fine in Firfox safe mode. I have tried deleting the cache and the Google cookies, as recommended. no help. IE works fine.... :(

Would that have anything to do with redirection? Google redirects all the links it provides through itself first. If you remove the redirection from the requests first, does that work? Does this extension help? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/clean-links/
