Firefox randomly crashes when in Windows normal mode, works fine in Windows safe mode
I'm running in Windows 7 Pro x64. Running latest Firefox (41.0.2) with a fresh install. When I start Firefox it will run for a short period of time and then crash. To test this, I'm using Peacekeeper (peacekeeper.futuremark.com) where it crashes within 5 seconds of starting the benchmark.
If I boot into Safe Mode (with Networking), it works fine on multiple runs of PeaceKeeper (or anything else).
Here's what I've tried: 1)Completely removed Firefox (including user profile) - no change. 2)Created new Windows user profile - no change. 3)Used MSConfig to turn off all startup and non-MS services - no change. 4)Updated every driver I could find (chipset, video, SATA, sound, network and WiFi) - no change. 5)Run Firefox in safemode - no change.
I think it has to be a driver, since Safe Mode works fine, but I guess it could be a MS Service of some sort.
I've run scans with multiple AVs (Malwarebytes, Sophos, NOD32) - no infections found.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Did you check the crash reports for possible clues?
Did you try to disable security software?
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that start with "bp-":
- bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).

AV is uninstalled. I'm not sure how to look at crash reports.

You can check for issues with Windows Media Foundation (HTML5 media player) and disable some prefs as a test.
- media.windows-media-foundation.enabled = false
- media.directshow.enabled = false
Running Firefox in Safe Mode makes no difference. (But booting Windows in Safe Mode does allow Firefox to work).
Graphics Drivers are most up to date - Intel HD Graphics 4000 - 25/5/2015.
SFC reports some unfixable corruption, so I'm doing an inplace upgrade to see if I can repair it.
I'll report back.
After doing an in place upgrade, Firefox appears to work fine. I have to do all the Windows updates again to make sure, but right now it looks like you've solved it for me. Thanks for all your help!
Glad to help. Good luck and Safe Surfing.
