I created a new Firefox profile and set a master password successfully. However, whenever I try to enable FIPS for any security device, I get the following message "Unable to change the FIPS mode for the security device. It is recommended that you exit and restart this application." I have exited and restarted the application many times without success. It is there any log or console that could show what is going on? How would you recommend going about trying to find the root cause of this problem? What approach would you use for troubleshooting? What information should I provide to assist with solving this problem?

This will be fixed in Firefox 54.

Try to rename/remove the secmode.db file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory: Show Folder

You can try the current beta to see if that works for you.
