Can't get Firefox to stop autofilling (and trying to autofill)
FF has begun autofilling forms when it encounters them, autofilling data fields in Salesforce.com (changes a leads first and last name to MY first and last name - behavior which doesn't happen in Chrome, for example), and seemingly trying to fill forms on pages where there are none to be filled. I've tried all the recommended privacy and security recommendations (e.g. unchecking "Remember search and form history, removing cookies from the Salesforce.com domain
This post from over 3 years ago https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/975548 is similar to what I'm experiencing, but the solution isn't applicable because the is no "view saved passwords" ability, so far as I can see. And it's not a matter of passwords anyway.

You can disable or remove this extension if you do not want to use auto-fill.

See if this works;
Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.
At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on Cache and Form And Search History.
Note that The System Details list next to the question shows that you have the Autofill 3.6.1-signed.1-signed extension, so this is likely the cause of your issue.
in about:config search for
browser.formfill.enable
signon.autofillForms
signon.autofillForms.http
and set to false
In order to change your Firefox Configuration please do the following:
- In the address bar, type about:config and press the Enter key.
- The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
Click I accept the risk! to continue to the about:config page.
Well, I appreciate the efforts, but none of these solved the problem. In fact, I wish I had known that "Clear History When Firefox Closes." would wipe out all my tabs upon restating the browser. So I'm now worse off than I was in that I've lost several tabbed pages which I had not bookmarked, and which are not in history.
Do you think uninstalling the browser and reinstalling it might do the trick?
Also, beyond backing up or exporting bookmarks, is there anything else I'd need to do in order to save settings (in other words, what's the proper way to backup the browser).
@cor-el - thanks for that observation - but what is the recommended action to take (and how do I take it)?

You can disable or remove this extension if you do not want to use auto-fill.
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/ FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension)
FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

@cor-el - Thanks - disabling the add-in did they trick.
Of course, I'll lose the ability to autofill where I want to, but that's a small price to pay to solve the other problem.
Should I do a "Refresh Firefox" to see if that eliminates the root cause of the issue?
If you want to test it with a new profile then you can consider to use the Profile Manager to create a new profile instead of using a reset. If you use the Profile Manager then you can easily switch back to your current profile.
