I downloaded the latest version of Firefox for PC (Windows 10) and the window in the attached image opened. I know it's a scam and I don't want to follow the instructions. But everytime I open Firefox, this opens up in a new window. And it won't let me close it! It's more annoying than anything else. Does anyone know how I can stop it opening up all the time? BTW i live in France, but my IP address is British, through a VPN.

Pkshadow I installed Malwarebytes' Antimalware. It did a scan and everything that it said was 'bad', I quarantined. Job done!

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista if you don't already have one. Windows 8/10 have antivirus protection built-in.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I hope you did not allow that installation. If you did, please remove it from the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any system extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious? If in doubt, disable or remove.

No way did I install. I was wary from the start. I tried googling it, but nothing came up, which made me even more suspicious. Thanks to you all. Way to go Mozilla Firefox support, and to all my American friends on here, Happy Thanksgiving!!
