Is it possible to clear all site data when Firefox closes, staying logged in on the websites which cookies I have saved as exceptions?
Thinking on actions concerning my privacy, I'd like to clear all personal data when Firefox closes (cookies, cached web content and site data). First question: does it make sense? Am I wrong on considering that as a relevant issue? Second question: could someone clearly define cookies, cached web content and site data (I couldn't find such definitions). And if I set Firefox to clear it all, is it possible for the exceptions to work, well, as exceptions, keeping me logged in on those sites?

Yes and no. If worried about someone looking in your cache to see where you have been then yes clear it. If not it helps pages load faster. https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/39177/cache Takes 5min's to hand clean cookies after the 1st time if do it daily. Or a Cookie Cleaner.

Firefox's feature to "Clear history when I close Firefox" does not respect exceptions. Instead you can set Firefox to limit cookies to the current session, so they are discarded when you exit Firefox.* Only the cookies for which you created an "Allow" exception can last beyond the session.
Since you already are familiar with the Preferences page, I think you know where to find those settings.
"Cookies" -- short values sites ask Firefox to save and to return with every request
"Cache" -- previously retrieved files, including HTML, images, scripts, style sheets, etc., that can be re-used when displaying content from a site to save on loading time/bandwidth
"Site Data" -- this term is a little ambiguous, but Firefox allows sites to use various forms of storage to carry over data between sessions besides cookies

Thank you very much for such helpful answers. I'm not worried about someone physically accessing my computer, I'm concerned about my personal data being tracked, and somehow used, by companies / organizations (which seems to be this century main commodity, and what is, at some point, determining our lives). I do think we lack good privacy-related browsing guidelines for the layman, and obviously I believe that would be particularly suited for Firefox. I'm now digging on the links mentioned.
