Kept seeing notices that my version of firefox was obsolete, so downloaded new version. Now, notices say I cant use new version because I need Mac 10.12 and I have only 10.11.6. Why did it download? How doI fix this? Can I back up to old version? Might be able to go to 10.12, but that might be messy.

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release for example has a Check the system requirements link so you can see if you meet the requirements.

Mac OS 10.12 is the minimum listed for the current Firefox 91.0.2 at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/91.0.2/system-requirements/

Mac OS 10.12 has been the minimum since Fx 79.0 Release as Fx 78.0 had listed 10.9, 10.10, 10.11 as minimum. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/79.0/system-requirements/ https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/78.0/system-requirements/

An option to be more up to date for a short while still with security fixes (and allowed stability fixes) is to use the Firefox 78.0 ESR (Extended Support Release). It is more for Enterprise and such users in mind though regular uses can use it also.

The current is Fx 78.0.13 esr (with Fx 78.0.14 esr out Sept 7) and 78.0.15 esr will be the last update out on Oct 5th. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/#product-desktop-esr

Unless you use Mac OS X 10.12 or later, the most current Firefox you will be able to run will be Firefox 78.0.15esr as time goes on.
