I have the latest version of TB -- 91.8.0 (64-bit). All of a sudden about 4 days ago I get a popup window titled "One account. All of Google" when TB tries to download msgs from my gmail accounts.

I no longer can download messages from those gmail accounts.

I don't have an "options" selection under tools but if I choose "preferences" then "Privacy and Security" and scroll to "Web Content" I see that the box for "Accept cookies from sites" is already checked.

Advice elsewhere given here also says "The authentication should be OAuth2 for both the incoming and outgoing smtp servers" but I don't know what that means or where I can check if OAuth2 is the same for both.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Perhaps see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20

You need to complete the entire sequence of web pages to re-authenticate Thunderbird with google. Until you do your account has no password to access google.

Thank you. I'll try that now.

Well, that was interesting. I found "Accept cookies from sites," disabled cookies, entered the exception for "https://accounts.google.com", saved the change, re-enable cookies, and restarted my computer.

I found after launching TB that one (Account A, let's say) of my three gmail accounts would check for mail but the other two (Accounts B and C) each generated the "One account. All of Google" popups. I think this was what was happening even before I created the exception as described above.

It turns out that Account A's Server Settings have a line for "Authentication method: and the selection there was "Normal password." The same line for Accounts B and C, however, had the method "OAuth2" selected.

I changed the method for B and C to "Normal password" and then both of THOSE accounts would allow TB to download my messages.

I'll leave things as they are now and hope for the best. Thank you again for your help.

Based on Googles announcement your mail will cease on 30 May 2022. Enjoy your 6 weeks of mail. But what is your proposal then?

Oops. I didn't know they'd established a deadline.

I reset "Authentication method" to "OAuth2" to comply with Google's requirements on all my Google accounts and the annoying popup windows are back.

I'm back to square one. Since the adjustments in the article you linked to did not work, do you have any idea what I can do now, please?

OK, here's the key to solving this problem after making changes to the authentication settings, enabling cookies, and providing for a "https://acounts.google.com" exception.

The annoying popup window is now your friend. Follow the directions on the popup to sign in with your existing password. You'll reach a page that says that Google notes something or other.

Choose "allow" and the window will disappear.

Now your gmail account will work on TB.

You'll get a bunch of security alerts for each account you do this with AND on the account you designated as your notification account. You can ignore them or fiddle with your privacy settings per the Google option shown.
