Why is this tagged windows7? Its happening on win10. How can i tag it win10? I'm using my old win 7 computer (where it works) to send this message because I cannot do it on the win10 machine (firefox is all blank screens there). Thank you.
You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.
See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022":
- https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
- https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
You may also have to install the Visual Studio 2013 Redistributable Package. You need to reboot the computer.
Hi thank you for the response.
I reinstalled both the Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022 and 2013 redist. It did not solve the problem.
The system is win 10 pro for workstations 64bit
thank you, -w
Do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
- download the Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop
*https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.
- do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including personal data in profiles created by other Firefox versions
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
- it is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling
Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then you can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

Reinstall Firefox
Thank you for your continued reply. I did the reinstall as requested, but the problem persists. The new version still will display only blank pages. What should i do now? thx,-w
OK, this reinstall works in troubleshoot mode ONLY. I went through the steps suggested in the troubleshoot page, but none helped (there is no extensions / add-ons / themes enabled in the new reinstall - so that page suggests another reinstall....).
So I'm stuck.
Is there a way to reinstall the old version?
thx,-w
Re-installed version 98.0. It worked perfectly, but I had to make a new profile. Reverted to the new version again, now the profile, all bookmarks seem lost.
another symptom of this is that if i click on a bookmark in the bookmark toolbar, the bookmarked URL does NOT appear in the address bar.
what to do ? Any suggestion?
I have included all the relevant info here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1378672 Also pity for your profile, you could have just edited compatibility.ini and keep using it.

can you elaborate? the link goes to this thread... thx,-w
Sorry, check again. About the profile, if you still keep the data just edit compatibility.ini where it says 101.0, change it to earlier version and it should accept it. Also disable updates until they fix this (problem is already fixed on nightly version too).

IC. Thanks.
That .ini trick should be published in the faqs, I'll make a note for sure. Reverted to 98, rescued bookmarks from a backup, importing through chrome.. .
Thanks,-w
