I installed Thunderbird on my desktop and logged into my gmail account with no problem using IMAP. Then I tried to do the same thing using the exact same setting on my desktop. I try creating my gmail account on Thunderbird and get through the whole setup process, verify the login on gmail but the Thunderbird app say unable to log in at server. I verified cookies and checked the server ports and authentication. Any idea what I'm missing? Thanks

Are you using Oauth authentication process? Thunderbird doesn't use the same password as the website login uses.

Here are the basics:

- change your security authorization to Oauth2 (do this for the server settings and also for the Outgoing (SMTP) server - two places - remove the password entries for the account (remove the entire entries both incoming and outgoing) - check to ensure that TB is set to accept cookies - Google will then step you through the authentication process for your PC.
