When downloading files using Firefox, I used to see a list of the files already present in whichever folder I chose. Now I don't. I wonder if I've changed an option accidentally (hit a random shortcut accidentally?), or whether this a Firefox or Windows change? Please help!

Hi Trevor

Are you sure you are viewing the correct downloads folder?

(I have done this myself by accident and found I am looking at a different folder.)

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry, I wasn't being clear. I can choose any folder, and successfully download a file into it with no problem. The issue is that whichever folder I choose, I am not shown the contents of that folder by Firefox. Previously, before hitting 'Save' I could see all the files already stored in that folder. For example, I could see whether I'd already saved a particular file, or could rename my new file to have a name appropriate to the folder - "Gas bill Sept 2023" rather than a random-characters pdf filename. Now I don't get that view of the files already in the folder; I can see them using Windows File Explorer, of course, but it means switching between that & the browser each time.

The file picker only shows files with the same type. If you download a .pdf file, only .pdf files are shown in the destination folder unless you change the save type to "All Files".
