When receiving an e mail that has a link within the text body I am unable to open the link/icon. It used to work perfectly. Has there been an update recently? I have asked before and you advised me to open account settings/server settings to see if I have ticked "Automatically download new messages" however this wording does not appear anywhere? Appreciate your help.

As this is a continuation of that discussion I will close this duplicate and suggest you continue there https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1481725

You might try restating your issue as I think both of them simply did not understand your issue as started. Or I have it all wrong. While you kick start that conversation have a look at the support document for this issue. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working
