Today as advised by you I have installed Firefox 4 on my ThinkPad Z60m laptop. Earlier with Firefox and all other application worked fine but now its not working on Firefox 4 yet working fine on MS IE and other applications. Please let me know soonest or else I being an avid user of the IBM track point will discontinue using Firefox altogether.

For me the solution given here worked on my Thinkpad T42 WinXP: http://aslezak.com/thinkpad-trackpoint-scrolling-in-firefox

Open this file in Notepad: C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\tp4table.dat

Find this line:

Pass 1 rules (These rules run last)

Add the following lines above that:

Firefox
*,*,firefox.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9
*,*,firefox.exe,*,*,MozillaWindowClass,WheelStd,0,9
*,*,firefox.exe,*,*,MozillaDropShadowWindowClass,WheelStd,0,9
*,*,firefox.exe,*,*,MozillaUIWindowClass,WheelStd,0,9
*,*,firefox.exe,*,*,*,WheelVkey,0,9

Save the file and restart the machine.

Thank you Saiful but I couldnt find the file tp4table.dat in Syn TP. Please note that I have an original MS Windows Home Edition software installed on my ThinkPad. As a result I have removed the Firefox 4 application and reinstalled Firefox earlier version. The track point, as expected is working fine.

I am quite surprised that the Mozilla folks didn't consider the need of the ThinkPad users when developing Firefox 4. Anyway, no loss to me and I will go back to using IE who too have come up with the new and improved version 9. Perhaps its time they considered this and act on it soonest or they will lose us dedicated TP users.

For my Thinkpad X200, saiful76's soultion worked however the tp4table.dat

file was located in C:\Program Files\Lenovo\TrackPoint

Added lines mentioned by saiful76, rebooted, and I am once again scrolling like no ones business.

I edited the about:config setting ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled, changing it from -1 to 1.

Tried yunlin12 solution first without any luck then tried saiful76 solution which then worked. This may have been a combination of both solutions.

Thank you very much.

Anyone having this problem should follow the link in saiful76 post as there are fixes for other programs there aswell.

Tell me frankly folks. Whose problem is this? Is it of the ThinkPad users or Firefox. Is it vital to use firefox for internet browsing when there are other faster ones?

Firefox team... wake up before its too late.

My machine is Lenovo R60e on WinXP. Trackpoint without ultranav. What fixed the problem for me was updating the Lenovo Trackpoint driver from 4.71 to 4.72 . The 4.71 upgrade fixed the trackpoint scrolling problem on the FF3.6 update. The 4.72 upgrade has fixed the problem on the FF 4 update. There was no need to edit tp4table.dat file or use about:config.

Thank you Padmali. Im a novice when it comes to this so it would be really nice if you could let us all know the step by step process for updating Lenovo Trackpoint (Ultranav) driver from 4.71 to 4.72. Many thanks in advance.

Solution for my Thinkpad R61:

Editing the tp4table.dat

AND this UltraNav-Settings: Screenshot

@sudipmaitra - certainly! Please remember this is for Trackpoint WITHOUT ultranav.

Go to Program Files > Lenovo > Trackpoint. There you will see a file tp4serv.exe - right click and choose properties. Click on the version tab and see that your version is 3.55 or 4.71. If it's one of these it should be safe to update. To update, visit this link [http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/sit.../document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66893] there you will find a list of Lenovo machines that this is suitable for. Make sure yours is on this list. On the page is a file 7bg583ww.exe so download that file onto your desktop. All you have to do then is to double click that file and follow the very simple instructions. This file updates both the Windows driver and the Lenovo driver.

Dear Lestat_SN... Many thanks for the help. Though I'm yet to download Mozilla Ver 4 but the installation of the new driver has helped a lot. It is working better than the previous version on my TP. Thanks champ. Hope it will now work on the new Mozilla as well.

Okay - this is the fix that works! Other fixes like the "about:config" chg did not work; and the "smooth scroll" option is an unacceptable behavior change.

Atomheart....did you try using it on Firefox 4? Is it working. I have not tried yet but its working on somethings that the older version didnt work on for example iTune.

saiful76 - Your FF UltraNav scroll fix is freaking AWESOME - worked perfectly - thanks for taking the time to pass on the answer...I have been begrudgingly NOT scrolling FF for months...actually went back to IE because I was so sick of NOT scrolling - simple thing...one would think FF would handle it!

Your the best - TY again!!!
