Since I am using firefox 4 (currently: 4.0.1) on my x86_64 openSuSE 11.4 desktop I am having problems with websites using flash. Some are unusable using firefox. This bug happens on all my linux machines that have an x86_64 installation, not on the ones with a 32 bit linux installed. A web site that is unusable with ff4 on my 64bit system is: http://www.wetter.de/deutschland The same website woks fine using opera (V11.01) on the same system and this webpage also works on my laptop installed with openSuSE 11.4 i586 and firefox 4.0.1. So it seems that the problems are specific to *firefox 4 on x86_64*. The problems I have visiting flash based webpages are mostly that the displayed content is flickering or it is visible only partially. Sometimes the content is still usable and only a little bit flickering, sometimes like on the wetter webpage noted above its unusable.

I found a workaround that hopefully will result in a final solution one fine day. Simply uninstall the 32bit flashplayer (rpm -e flash-player) and then install the 64bit preview-version of flashplayer from adobe:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10_square.html

This works fine. The only problem: There are no more automatric updates for flashplayer, you have to check for new versions manually.

Have a nice day Rainer
