When I try to change the search words in the browser it goes back to the orginal words typed and won't accept the change

When I try to change the search words firefox does not accept them...e.g. I type in search for "Joe Bloggs" then try to change the search to search for "Joe Bloggs" Football it tries to connect briefly and then shows the results for the previous search "Joe Bloggs" and the added words "Football" no longer appear in the search bar.
