Firefox wants me to update flash, i cannot as i am at work.
I am using firefox portable 16.0.2 as i am at work and do not have admin privileges. When i open You tube, firefox asks me to update adobe flash player. Flash player is installed and i can see videos using Chrome and IE. It was working fine a few days ago. I am guessing that adobe came up with some newer version and firefox wants me to update. I understand they do this cos they think the older version may have security risks etc. But i cannot update it (cannot ask the admin, they never agree). Is there a solution to this.
thanks.

Hi jscher2000,
Thank you for replying to my post. I visited the page you have linked and although it did not help me directly (as the stand alone installer mentioned here was made in 2008), i ended up reading the whole discussion. I solved my problem like this:
- # 1. Went to my home computer where i have admin rights and unpacked the "Portable Firefox Package" there.
- # 2. Updated everything.
- # 3. Copied the entire folder on a USB drive.
- # 4. At work, deleted the portable firefox already there and copy pasted from the USB the firefox folder from my home computer !!
- # 5. And, since everything is updated there, it is working fine now.
- # 6. In future now, all i have to do is update the things at home and copy paste either the entire thing or just one or more files.
Thanks Again.

You might be able to use a portable installer for Flash to bypass your natively installed version. I haven't tried it myself:
http://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#plugins
And someone should suggest to your IT to update (or remove) obsolete plugins rather than allow them to languish.

I cannot figure out how to post to get answers so I will just reply here in hopes that someone can help. I am getting an error message telling me that I am not the admin and cannot run updates. I "AM" the admin, this is my MAC computer and I have "never" used parental controls or anything else. How do I get past this and please do not tell me to reinstall because I then have to go in and figure out how to uninstall the old version and I really do not have time for that and have no desire to have all of those things downloaded into my wonderful MAC. Thank you!
Hi kjc1627, you can start a new question here:
https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems
Please include Mac in the question/subject line so that people familiar with Mac will be attracted to jump in.
Easy fix. You're at work.....close YouTube and go back to work.
Thank you!! Appreciate the reply. It allowed me one sentence question and I did not even see where it posted. I also was not allowed a heading so that I could include "MAC", maybe I am missing something but in today's world of computing I wouldn't think it would be that hard.
Hi kjc1627, after entering the question, you should get another screen with suggestions and then, below those, a button to submit a more detailed description. If you didn't get through that part, you might have to start that question again.
