After I type in my login details and press "enter" on a website, Firefox freezes for around half minute. This has gone on for around 5 months. I've tried disabling add-ons to my Firefox but they don't seem to affect this problem. My version is 17.0.1.
How do I combat this problem? Many thanks in advance.

Provide the website name.
_________________________________________________________________________________ Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode" To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

Any website which requires my login details e.g. this website, Hotmail, eBay, Amazon etc.
We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
- Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Does this happen with all websites when you try to login?
Try to rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
iamjayakumars, thanks for the suggestion. However, the crash report doesn't show up my problem as I have a rough idea of what time it happened today and it didn't appear there.
cor-el, I can't locate any cookies with those names in the Firefox Profile Folder. Yes, this issue happens on every website which requires my login details.

iamjayakumars, I tried out Firefox in Safe Mode but to no avail after I typed my login details and pressed "enter". The screen just froze again.

Did you tried safemode
Did you use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder?
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
There should be a cookies.sqlite file in that folder?
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:
- Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
- Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
- Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
- From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
- Now click the Clear now button.
Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

iamjayakumars , I cleared the cache and cookies from "recent history" but the problem still persists.
co-rel, I've found the file and when I tried to delete "cookies.sqlite", it wouldn't let me as it said "the file is opened in Firefox". How do I close this file? I also haven't been able to locate a file named "cookies.sqlite-journal" in the Firefox Profile Folder.
You need to close Firefox if you want to remove files in the Firefox Profile Folder.
You can check in the Task Manager to see if all Firefox processes are ended.
If that still gives problems then try to reboot the computer, possibly in Windows Safe Mode via the F8 key on the boot screen in case security software is locking files.
