I received an update request from the flash player. Before everything was working as normal but since the latest update the plugin won't register in Firefox. The ActiveX is working for IE. The plugin tries to re-install every time flash is on a site. It seems to be everytime succesful as well but no luck no flash.

Have you restarted Firefox after the installation?

You might want to use the installer from Adobe's site. If you visit the link with Firefox, you will get the Netscape-compatible plugin. If you visit with IE, you will need to click "Do you have a different operating system or browser?" to get the version for Firefox.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Make sure to uncheck the box for the free add-on software if you don't want it.

Does that work any better?

I did restart the firefox after installation of flash. I'm using the installer from adobe itself.

I'm seeing the flash installed on the computer (correct version) in the control panel. However everytime I go to a flash page on Firefox it asks me to install it over and over but it is never activated. Also when checking the add-ons it does not appear in the list of plugins. The shockwave player seems not to be affected by this problem.

So the answer to the last question is negative ;)

Hi Nascar, as a test of whether one of your add-ons or custom settings might be interfering with Firefox finding and running the Flash plugin, could you create a second Firefox profile? That's a parallel personal settings folder. You can easily create a new profile and switch between profiles using Firefox's profile manager.

If you exit all Firefox windows, you can start up in the Profile Manager using:

Start > Run > firefox.exe -p {ENTER}

Any time you want to switch profiles, close Firefox and return to this dialog. More info: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles (I recommend not deleting any profiles until you are sure you won't need the data stored in them).

Does Firefox successfully find the Flash plugin in the new profile?

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category

Hi,

Thanks for the help ;) I tried with a new profile but no luck no plugin found and no flash working. The flash is actually on the computer but firefox does not want to use the plugin. I also tried reinstalling within the new profile but again no luck (even with a restart of the browser)

I tried to downgrade back to Flash 11.5. At first I didn't succeed to even install it but unplugging the cable works ...

The Flash 11.5 plugin works fine and firefox is able to use flash again but not with the version 11.6

Unfortunately, you are in a catch-22 because Flash 11.5 is not secure...

Could you try one other thing? Reinstall the current Flash player, then force a new plugin scan by doing the following.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

Switch back to Firefox and Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename pluginreg.dat to something like pluginreg.old

Restart Firefox. Hopefully now Firefox will pick up the new Flash plugin from the registry.

Try using http://ninite.com/flash/ninite.exe to install Flash. Adobe's installer can be, well, buggy to say the least. Download that file, close Firefox, run the file, then re-open Firefox.

I've tried ninite before posting this without any success. I'll try the renaming of the plugin file once ;)
