Hello, I need to send many messages to my contacts adresses, but also to their secondary addresses. When I compose a message, I can access only the main email adress from my contact when I open the contact window. How can I do that ? is there a recommandable addon abble to do that ? I can see only the main but not the alternative address. Many thanks Regards Birdee

Chosen solution

Contacts Sidebar installs and runs in TB 24.5, but you may need to first install this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/checkcompatibility/

The developer of MoreFunctionsForAddressBook can be contacted by clicking the Email icon at the top left of the add-on's webpage.

  • Open Address Book
  • select the address book containing the contact.
  • select contact, so you see their contact details in the lower part of Contact Pane.
  • You should see Email and Additional email. click on the additional email to open a new Write message using that email address in a TO field.

Hello, this suggested solution is ok to send a message to one by one contact. If I need to send a message to many contacts at the same time, this it's not efficient. This is what I mean : If I open a "new message" and the "contact panel" which is on the left side, I can see only 2 columns with "name" and "main adress". At this time I can't see the culumn with "Additional emails" and I can add it... which would be very convenient Regards Many thanks Birdee

I think the only way to have additional emails displayed in the Contacts sidebar would be to create duplicates of the contacts with multiple addresses, with a different address in the Email field ("main address"). Creating duplicates is made easier if you install MoreFunctionsForAddressBook, as it adds an 'Edit as new' command to the contact right-click menu. This add-on also allows 5 additional addresses for each contact.

You could also ask the add-on developer to allow an 'Additional email' column in the Contacts sidebar.

Another workaround would be to start typing the contact's name in the To: box and allow the autocomplete search to suggest the 'Additional email' address.

sfhowes:

I looked at the addon

which would offer this, but it seems from comments that it is no longer working on recent versions. I cannot see how to contact the developer on whether he intends to update this addon.

I installed a pre-release version of Contacts Sidebar in TB 31 (should work on TB > 14) and it seems to work properly. The 'Additional email' column can be displayed, and messages can be addressed to multiple contacts by selecting from the right-click menu.

Hello Sfhowes thanks you for your answer, but unfortunately the pre-release version of Contacts Sidebardoesn't work with TB 24.5.0 !

Hello sfhowes MoreFunctionsForAddressBook could be a solution, I installed it and I can indeed easily duplicate contacts with an alternate address. It's a bit long because I have a lot of contacts! Thank you for the tip. I will indeed contact the add-on developer to allow an 'Additional email' column in the Contacts sidebar. Thanks a lot Birdee

Hello Sfhowes, I just try the way you told me, installing checkcompatibility and then Contact Sidebar, but it doesn't work. I have the following message on the main TB page :

"XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: chrome :/ / contactssidebar / content / contactsPanel.xul Line Number 244, Column 9: "

What is your operating system and localization (language of TB)? I installed on Win 7 without any problems, as you can see in the pictures above.
