Like many others, I can't select an item in a drop down box by pointing and clicking. The item doesn't highlight or select. The same thing happens in some pop-up windows (like the options box for Tab Mix Plus). In this case, it's like the pop-up isn't even there. Clicking selects whatever is in the background on the browser screen behind the pop-up. The only way to close the pop-up is to close FF. I've tried all the suggestions I can find with no success. I disabled hardware acceleration, started in safe mode, disabled all my add-ons, even uninstalled FF (including all personal data and registry items). Nothing makes any difference. Has anyone come up with a fix for this extremely frustrating problem? It seems to be very common with the last few versions. I'm ready to dump FF if things keep going downhill like they have been lately.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
