Firefox ignores my custom download location which IS a subfolder
Using the firefox menu for download location, I input a custom location on my D Drive which IS not a root location. It is ignored and firefox keeps saving to user mame/downloads on my C drive

Firefox must have undergone even more changes than I thought if you cannot even set your preferred download directory! When I was using Windows Firefox, I was able to put downloads wherever I wanted.
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.
If there is still a problem,
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
You may have to clear the Site Preferences if you have previous saved files from those domains.
Why would you clear all the permission settings to change one type of item?
