Very long time to download messages [win10]. Works fine in Windows safe mode. CAUSE: ???
when I open Mozilla it now takes a very long time to download messages, maybe four in an hour. I have followed the instructions to remove passwords and re-enter however as an occasional email arrives and I am informed that collection of emails is in progress I assume that it is not a problem with pass words. I have no problem with collecting them on my Iphone so I think that it is not the server.(while waiting for Mozilla to down load new emails arrive on my iphone, 20 new emails already on my iphone while only the first 3 in Thunderbird. All was working well until today, except deleted emails were being replaced in the in box as unread unless I was quick enough to delete them permanently after having been to the server to mark them all as read. I have not discovered how to set up Mozilla so that it leaves the emails marked as read on the server. That of course is another problem maybe.

MS is Microsoft, ok. I can't disable Avast in task manager, I've tried but it won't disable.
Well MS moved it is Windows 10. Like everything else they moved and made it harder.
Still did you disable all the non MS applications and restart. You might even just try disabling the startup items for avast and then restarting.
By disabling avast completely defender will probably start automatically. But I doubt it will manifest exactly the same problem
In start up I can not disable Avast, I highlight it and click on disable but nothing happens. I have tried disabling everything else and re-starting and it makes no difference. I have turned off Avast firewall completely and that makes no difference. It works perfectly when I go into Safe mode and open Thunderbird but as soon as I return to normal mode it grinds to a halt almost.
I've looked at M firewall and allowed aplications and Thunderbird is not listed. There are two Firefox (c:\ program files (x86) Mozilla firefox) with both private boxes checked. It states on the first page, "help to protect your PC" that "theses settings are being managed by vendor application Avast Premier"
when I look in "Advanced setting" in Firewall in MS it again states that Avast is running and that and that the firwall is on, when I turn off Avast it states "Windows firewall is helping to protect your computer" So it doesn't work with Avast turned on or off and I haven't found out how to turn W firewall off. Windows mentioned that the setting were not the recommended settings so I clicked to change to "recommended settings"
