Windows 7 crashes on my 32 bit Dell Laptop each time I attempt to Install.

have been using Firefox for many years and it has worked fine on my 32 bit Dell Windows 7 laptop until it updated to version 57.0.2. Now trying to reload Firefox my windows crashes so I am forced to use Internet Explorer (which I have used about 5 times to reload Firefox).

Did this issue start in 57.0.2 whereas 57.0 and 57.0.1 were fine, or is 57.0.2 the first 57 version you use after updating from 56.0.2 or older?

If the latter is true, I might be wrong but from the head, your laptop may contain an Intel Broadwell CPU that may need its microcode to be updated. See the Crash on Broadwell-U with old microcode article for more info on how to check and update it.

I understand this is not about Firefox itself crashing but Windows instead, so you probably won’t see crash reports generated by Firefox, if you could start it in the first place. Nevertheless you could have a look to see if any crash reports have been generated, as follows:

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

If there are no submitted reports generated by Firefox, please provide the error code generated for the Windows crash (see the Windows system and application logs if you don’t see them due to a possible requirement to restart your PC), as well as your exact PC make and model and any security software involved.

Other reasons for Firefox crashing on startup (usually limited to Firefox, not causing Windows to crash) are in security software such as G Data security software (see here) and Comodo (see here).
