How can I prevent the auto shifting of tabs to another row?

Hello, can anyone help me with this problem? I've been working on trying to solve this ever since the Firefox 57 release.

I already used the popular code I've seen around the internet, to make the tabs into multiple rows.

HOWEVER, I've run into this problem:

I have a few rows of tabs. Whenever I want to move a Tab into another *exact* position, Firefox automatically and randomly slides other tabs over in other rows to make a gap, and when I let go, the selected tab 'jumps' into that gap on another row (usually right above) instead of where I really want it to go! It also creates gaps on the far left of all the rows too.

I want to move the tab to an exact position. TabMix Plus used to allow this.

I tried making a screenshot of the problem to show here, but of course, the moment I let go the mouse to take the shot, the gaps disappear and the tabs are back into position.

Is there a code to prevent this auto-shifting of other tabs? I'm not on Windows. I'm on a Mac (just in case any answers may reference folder/file paths). Thanks!

Hi, I gather you have been playing with usserChrome . Would need to delete the entry that is causing the issue. You can find info and resources here for that. USSER CHROME URL'S

Note not all code in one place.

If you have not been doing anything in userchrome as that is where that should be done you would need to change back the settings you made. If you did not bookmark where you got the settings or copy/paste to a file the info you will have to do this : REFRESH INSTRUCTIONS

Please Refresh but do this 1st: Delete your Cookies and Cache and TEST.

then

TEST....... If no issues then Extensions which need to be added back in 1 at a time and tested ..... Or it is your Profile : Make a new one and test ...:

If is your Profile :

Note: Any customization will revert back to default, you will also need to reinstall Extensions.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi Pkshadow,

Thank you for your quick answer, and resources!

1. Yes, I had to create a userChrome.css file to get the multiple rows back (Made a copy of the supplied example file and renamed it, etc.).

2. I did the restart in 'Safe Mode' with no add-ons and it worked fine as single-row tabs.

3. I also had created a new profile recently as well, but it still came back

I will re-do all the steps again though, as you have outlined above, and look at those reference links too regarding the code, just in case I missed anything.

I'll report back after re-trying everything. Thanks again!

Hello again.

I followed the steps you suggested, and tested everything out, fresh, including 'Safe Mode', then creating a new profile and starting with a new, clean userChrome.css file with nothing in it yet, and disabled add-ons.

Then, I tried 'multiple line tab' and 'tabs below bookmark bar' codes in it and nothing else, then tested.

It appears that dragging a tab around where I want, only works when it is the default single row, because the very moment I add the code, the problem happens again -- *even with add-ons disabled*, and the caches/cookies are clean*.

This is a link to the 'multiple line tabs' code I'd used (via one of your links provided):

https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/blob/master/classic/css/tabs/tabs_multiple_lines_v2.css

Is there anything in the code itself that could cause this, or can be tweaked to prevent it? What is making the tabs slide over like that instead of pinned so I can fit the tab in between where I want? I'm stumped, especially since I have not read of anyone else having this problem.
