I went to the trash folder, selected quick search, typed in my name and selected Sender. I only got one message from this year, whereas I have sent about 60.

What are you saying? Really. That it does not find messages you can see in he folder or what? I simply hve no idea what you are trying to communicate here.

Sorry, I did not explain the problem well. I type my own name in the search field for Quick Search when in the Trash folder. I then click on Sender.

Thunderbird highlights a message sent by me in the Trash folder. It's not the most recent message either. It does not display all the messages sent by me that are in the Trash folder.

try typing your email address. Thunderbird will use any entry you have in the address book for yourself. So it might be what is in the sent folder is not really names as it appears.

Options > Display > Advanced and turn off the option to use display names from the address book to see if this is what is happening.

Thanks very much. When I typed my email address I got the expected results.

I later turned off the option as you suggested and typed my name. This time it gave an incomplete list of my emails and also included emails with me in the title but sent by someone else.
