There are 7 top sites I am interested in. However, Firefox keeps adding additional sites until both rows are full. If I delete any of the sites I am not interested in, the simply get replaced with other sites (of no interest to me). Is there a way to only show the top sites of my choice without filling up the row with junk? Thanks in advance for your help. captainron

Chosen solution

Hello captainron,

My workaround is to replace the "unwanted tiles" with tiles I don't really need, but might come in handy :

Hover over the right top of the tile (three dots will show up) click on it; click on "Edit" and enter the URL and name of the site.

Surely you can think of some sites that you wouldn't mind being there (for now) ..... (?)

Hi captainron, I suppose the page follows the axiom "Nature abhors a vaccuum." But seriously, if you have 8 tiles on the first row, you could at least consider reducing the number of rows to 1 (on the Options page, Home panel). Unfortunately, there isn't a simple solution to keep the remaining spaces blank.

You would have to pin sites to tiles. You can possibly do that by editing browser.newtabpage.pinned on the about:config page and change the url of a tab you do not want to use to something like "about:blank?1"

browser.newtabpage.pinned:

[null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,null,{"url":"about:blank?1"},{"url":"about:blank?2"},{"url":"about:blank?3"},{"url":"about:blank?4"},{"url":"about:blank?5"},{"url":"about:blank?6"},{"url":"about:blank?7"},{"url":"about:blank?8"},{"url":"about:blank?9"}]

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites you have pinned to a tile
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile

jscher2000 and cor-el,

Thank you both for your quick reply. Cor-el's suggestion will likely be the best solution for me.

Much appreciate your thoughts and work-arounds. captainron

Aloha McCoy, Ok, for me, your suggestion is the one I will use. Thanks for the input! Yes, I can think of a few sites I can tolerate. At least it wont continually change the bottom row with (for me) useless sites...

My pleasure, captainron  ! Another plus point for doing it this way : you can always easily replace a site with another site .....
