How do I stop forefox acting as a search engine
I am using firefox 68.0.1 when I type in an address in the address bar it seems firefox chooses to do a search on this address and returns rubbish. If I type win2k8 in the address bar I want the browser to go there, by that I mean prefix it with http:// and go to that address. not return me a list of places I can go to no of which makes sense... I a host file with win2k8 and it's IP address, I expect it to use that.

Hello,
Would you try this please :
Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (proise to be careful, if asked)
Type in the search bar and look for the preference :
keyword.enabled and make sure its value is set to false
Do the same for these two preferences :
browser.fixup.alternate.enabled and browser.urlbar.suggest.searches
If you had to change anything, then close and restart Firefox.
In addition, please go to Options => Search, and make sure that these two boxes are unchecked :
"Show search suggestions in address bar resultsShow search" and "Show search suggestions ahead of browsing history in address bar results"
