Thunderbird won´t open file Links in received messages - the serverpart when URI like file:\\server\path\file.extension gets lost.
When receiving internal Messages from another Computer in the sam SMB-Domain which include links to local files in the form of file:\\server\path\file.extension which are correct when clicking on the link and opening it in a browser or Windows Exlplorer.exe the \\server part gets lost making this links unusable. The Link in the HTML Email is correct and can be opened in MS Outlook. The Link is corectly shown in the email as well, where you can copy the text - not the broken hyperlink - and paste it in an explorer window. Any help is appreciated.

I think the failure to open links is deliberate, but you might be able to disable the block by following the instructions in this article. See also the section UNC Paths. I'm providing this info as is, with no personal experience to say if it works or not.
