Thunderbird will NOT load after I downloaded. I have not been able to use it in several years so I uninstalled it WAY back then. I thought I'd give it another try but NOTHING has changed. The error comes up - "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window." Well there IS no old Thunderbird on my computer! What do I do? I'd really like to use it once again but it just won't work! Please help. Thanks

Thunderbird is still running, just not visible. Open Task Manager and end any instance of Thunderbird that is still running, then go to C:\Program Files and/or C:\Program Files (x86) and delete the Mozilla Thunderbird folder from those two locations. Download Tbird from thunderbird.net and NOWHERE else.

So sorry, Stans ... Did EXACTLY what you suggested and it is STILL doing the same error. Thanks anyway.

Open the profile folder, usually located here:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\8characters.default (hidden folder by default in Explorer)

and see if there is a parent.lock file. If so, delete it and see if TB starts properly.
