Have been fighting this for several days. I had a hard drive failure and after getting that fixed and installing Windows 10 home and downloading Thunderbird I keep getting error messages when I try to enter the information at the set up page for Thunderbird.

The settings Spectrum gives me are as follows: Username: Your full Spectrum email address Password: Your Spectrum email password SSL: On Protocol: IMAP Port: 993 Port: 587 Requires Authentication: Yes

Incoming Email Server: mail.twc.com Outgoing Email Server: mail.twc, com

I don't see some of the options in the Thunderbird set up page such as the Authentication part and many things are confusing.

A little more detailed description of what I dealing with:

After I click on Set up Your existing email address I go to the page to enter the information. I put in My name(first and Last), email address, and Spectrum password. Then click on "continue" I get a reply "Configuration found in ISP database" It shows incoming and outgoing Protocol as "mobile.charter.net" and my email address as "user name".

If I then click on "Done" I get the yellow error message: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name or pass word"

If I then select "Configure Manually" and change servers to "mail.twc.com" which is what Spectrum says they should be then I look at the Ports and they agree with Spectrum 993 and 587. Under SSL I see "SSL/TLS"

Under the Authentication it shows "Normal Password" where the settings Spectrum gave me it should be "Yes or Checked" That is not one of the options in the drop down list.

If I then click on "Re-Test" I get the Yellow error message: "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account"

I have tried a few different versions of the information and so far have never got any different results. I have used one version or another of Tbird for 20 or 30 years and this is the most trouble I've had and I have used it on at least four different computers.

As you are doing a new installation etc. Exit Thunderbird and then access the Firewall which might be part of your Anti-virus product. Please make sure Thunderbird is an allowed program in your Firewall, otherwise Thunderbird will have a problem connecting to server.

Server Settings Based on Domain (@example.com) Charter.net

Brighthouse.com, bak.rr.com, bham.rr.com, cfl.rr.com, emore.rr.com, eufala.rr.com, indy.rr.com, mi.rr.com, panhandle.rr.com, tampabay.rr.com

TWC.com and any domain ending in .rr.com not covered above

So the server name you use depends upon what comes after the @ in the email address.

I assume you chose IMAP, but please check that is the case.

IMAP account uses

  • Port : 993
  • Connection Security: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password

SMTP

  • Port: 587
  • Connection Security: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password

In both imap incoming and smtp outgoing the 'User Name' must be the full email address. The Password is case sensitive and same one as used to access webmail account for that email address.

re :Under the Authentication it shows "Normal Password" where the settings Spectrum gave me it should be "Yes or Checked" That is not one of the options in the drop down list. Spectrum are giving generic info and not email client specific. You would use 'Normal Password'.
