Every time I open Thunderbird it opens my default browser (in my case Firefox) and opens the 'What’s New in Thunderbird 102' web page (https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/102.0/whatsnew/.......). Question : How do I stop Thunderbird from opening the (external) web browser / Firefox ? Updates are disabled, btw.

Thanks alot!

In the toolbar I click on Tools > Preferences >> General : Thunderbird Start Page (is disabled) - did I miss something?

yes, Thunderbird is not meant to have updates disabled. Especially on something as old as windows 7.

But having the whats new link open in a browser is apparently intentional see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1694688

That is is appearing on every restart suggest other issues, like settings not being saved to show the update as been displayed. That would have a lot to do with your environment and what you have done to disable updates and other "security and optimizing software you have deleting things that should not be deleted (it is now I go looking for ccleaner in it's default destructive mode).

ANother source of setting not being saved its the device being turned off before all updates are complete.
